Fuel America, the newest member of Worcester’s downtown restaurant scene, has begun construction on its Mercantile Center coffeehouse and roastery.
The Boston-based cafe expects to open in the fall at the base of the mixed-use skyscraper at 100 Front Street. The location will be the company’s fourth after operating stores in Brighton and at Logan International Airport.
The restaurant offers custom specialty coffees, espresso drinks, fresh-pressed juices, seltzers, baked goods, homemade breakfasts, sandwiches, salads and smoothies. Local micro-brewed beers and wine options will be available at the location.
In a statement, Chip Norton of Franklin Realty Advisors, the developer of the renovated Mercantile Center, said the coffee shop will complement the new businesses relocating to the center.
“With the recent influx of new tenants to the building, having a convenient place for people to grab their morning coffee and more will be a welcome addition,” he said.
Fuel America announced its plans to open a Worcester location in December. At that time, Managing Partner Jeff Bonasia commented on Worcester’s recent development.
“We’ve been very impressed with the revitalization and attention to detail in the Mercantile Center, and we wanted to be a part of that”, said Managing Partner, Jeff Bonasia. “There is nothing in Worcester, or Boston for that matter, that’s going to be like the experience we’ll be offering.”
