Friendly's Closes Central Mass Restaurants

Friendly's Ice Cream Corp. has closed 37 Friendly's restaurants, including three in Central Massachusetts.
Ten stores in Massachusetts closed Sunday, including one in Shrewsbury at the White City Shopping Plaza on Route 9, in Westborough on Turnpike Road, and on Chandler Street in Worcester.
The company lists stores in Auburn, Holden, Milford and Webster, as well as on Grafton Street in Worcester, as still in operation on its website.
The Wilbraham-based business voluntarily entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2011 and emerged with the announced 37 restaurant closings. The company said it was unable to renegotiate lease terms at the locations that were closed. The impacted restaurants closed as of Sunday.
