Friday sees 71 new coronavirus cases in Worcester County and seven deaths

Worcester County reported 71 new coronavirus cases Friday, and seven new deaths, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases in the county increased the total to 11,600. Statewide, confirmed and probable cases increased by 494 bringing the total to 102,557.

The newly reported deaths in Worcester County bring the overall death toll to 813. Across Massachusetts, there are now 7,235 probable and confirmed coronavirus deaths. Friday included 35 new confirmed deaths.

DPH reported 10,880 newly administered coronavirus tests Friday.

The City of Worcester reported 26 new cases adding to the 4,975 total. These low numbers come after the city retroactively added more than 600 cases due to a reporting error made in its system tracking the virus.  

UMass Memorial Health Health and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester report 129 total cases, and 44 in intensive care. Between the hospitals, there have been a total of 299 deaths since the pandemic began, and 342 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.

MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick reported 35 confirmed and suspected cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported 13, according to DPH. In total, there are 12 suspected and confirmed cases in intensive care. Harrington Hospital, Heywood Hospital, and HealthAlliance report 27 suspected or confirmed cases overall, and seven in the ICU.

Nationally, there are close to 1.9 million cases, and roughly 108,920 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there are now 6.7 million cases and 393,709 fatalities.
