Open source software advocates are trying to scrape together enough money to bid on defunct Maynard computer firm SiCortex's PathScale suite.
According to the Codestrom blog, the proprietary PathScale software has a reputation for high performance and should be "liberated." The effort to do so has been joined by the nonprofit Linux Fund, which plans to place a bid for the software this week.
SiCortex hired California-based Gerbsman Partners to solicit interest in its assets.
In late May, SiCortex ceased operations and began seeking bidders for substantially all of the company's assets, including intellectual property, customers, contacts, sales pipeline and equipment. The company's offices are in Clock Tower Place in Maynard.
The venture-backed company was founded in 2004 and raised $68.1 million from five investment groups.
