Franklin manufacturer fined $11.5K

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has penalized AR Metallizing Ltd., of Franklin, $11,502 for violating air pollution control regulations.

The fines stem back to an inspection of the paper metallizing factory at 24 National Dr. in December of last year. The inspection found the company failed to obtain an Air Quality Plan Approval prior to installing new equipment, according to MassDEP. In addition, the company reportedly exceeded its permitted air emission limits in March and October of that year.

According to John Kronopolus, deputy director of MassDEP’s central regional office in Worcester, the company quickly applied for the necessary permit for the installed equipment and brought in a consultant to investigate how to prevent future breakdowns.
