The Franklin Food Pantry has purchased the former Dante’s Motors building to better serve those making use of the food pantry.
The new building at 138 East Central Street, which will undergo a full renovation, will allow the organization to better fulfill its mission with improved accessibility and confidentiality in addition to allowing them to develop new services. The pantry will launch a capital campaign to help fund the renovation later this year.
The property was sold for $465,000 on April 17 of this year, according to Massachusetts land records.
Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry Lynn Calling said in a release the organization has been looking for a new space for three years to increase its help to the community.
“We are so thankful to Rockland Trust for loaning us our space and taking such good care of us over the past 10 years, but we have outgrown the building,” Calling said in a press release. “Through the generosity of our board members and close friends of the pantry, we were finally able to make this happen.”
The pantry has continued serving the community during the coronavirus pandemic. It is distributing prepackaged bags of shelf stable items as well as fresh produce and proteins through a drive up service. The organization said it has seen an increase in need in the community.
