Franklin biotech acquires orthopedic technology

Google Arthrosurface, Inc.'s Franklin headquarters.

Franklin orthopedic biotech company Arthrosurface, Inc. has acquired an acellular dermal stabilization technology from a Florida company.

Arthrosurface intends to use the technology to solve orthopedic challenges in multiple areas, the company said in a press release Monday.

The technology, acquired from Florida company WASAS, LLC, is used to remove cells and retain portions of the extracellular matrix. The biomaterial is then used to replicate human tissue.

Terms of the deal, including financials, were not disclosed.

"The availability of this allograft to Arthrosurface will allow us to execute on a pipeline of clinical applications that we have identified with our surgeon partners over the past several years," said Steve Ek, CEO of Arthrosurface.
