Framingham/Worcester commuter rail to close in Boston this weekend

Grant Welker A commuter rail train pulls into Worcester's Union Station. Trains along the line will stop at the Boston Landing stop in Brighton because of construction farther into the city.

Commuter rail service along the Framingham/Worcester line will be shut down before reaching Boston this weekend starting Friday night as part of a major reconstruction of a bridge in Boston passing over the route.

The closure, which begins at 11 p.m. Friday, will be repeated the following weekend starting Friday, Aug. 4.

Shuttles will take passengers from the new Boston Landing stop in Brighton to the Reservoir Green Line station.

The Commonwealth Avenue bridge is being rebuilt where it passes over the train tracks and the Massachusetts Turnpike. The pike will be reduced to two lanes in each direction from 9 p.m. on July 28 to 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7. The pike eastbound on-ramp from Cambridge Street and Soldiers Field Road will be closed during that period, and the westbound Exit 20 off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. on Aug. 1 to 5 a.m. on Aug. 7.

For commuters using the Green Line's B branch, that segment will be closed from the Babcock Street to Blandford Street sections until 5 a.m. on Aug. 14. Shuttle buses will run between those stations in the meantime.
