Framingham’s MCR Labs on tap for final marijuana testing license

Two marijuana testing labs – including one in Framingham – are set to get their final licenses from the Cannabis Control Commission in what is another huge milestone for the industry.

MCR Labs in Framingham and CDX Analytics in Salem are on tap to receive final licenses from the CCC Thursday. Both received provisional licenses from state cannabis regulators in August.

Both currently test products for the state’s medical use program.

Testing labs have been one of the final pieces to drop in the state’s lengthy rollout. Both MCR and CDX were the first labs to receive provisional licenses on Aug. 23 despite retailers receiving provisional licenses starting in July.

Two retailers received their final licenses earlier this month, including Cultivate in Leicester, where marijuana and cannabis products are produced. One of the final pieces before products can be sold is testing to ensure the items are free of harmful chemicals.

According to the Cannabis Control Commission, licensees must also become established in the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system, pass an additional inspection and satisfy final conditions.

Sam Barber, president of Cultivate, said last week the store should be able to open for retail sales “in the next few weeks.”

The CCC is also expected to vote on provisional licenses for four applicants: Caroline’s Cannabis in Uxbridge, Curaleaf in Oxford, East Coast Organics in Leicester and Theory Wellness in Bridgewater.
