Unemployment in the Framingham area ticked up slightly in May, but the rate remained more than a percentage point lower than it was in the same month last year.
The unemployment rate for the MetroWest labor area in Massachusetts was 2.7% in May, up from 2.5% in April but down from 4.6% in May 2021, according to data from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development released Tuesday.
The labor force in the Framingham area consisted of 156,623 people, essentially flat compared to April 2022 (156,839 people) and May 2021 (156,493).
Total employment in MetroWest was also flat, at 152,417 in May compared to 152,841 in April. Employment was, however, up a bit over the year: There were 149,365 jobs on local payrolls in May 2021.
The Framingham workforce area consists of Framingham, Sudbury, Natick, Southborough, Ashland, Holliston, Hopedale, Mendon, Milford, Marlborough, Hopkinton, and Hudson, according to the state.
