Framingham State University has again received national recognition for its diversity and inclusion efforts, and is the only public college in Massachusetts to receive the distinction.

Framingham State earned the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity, or HEED, award for the fifth time from the higher education diversity and inclusion group INSIGHT into Diversity. Northeastern University in Boston was the only other Massachusetts college named this year.

The award goes to colleges showing efforts to support diversity and inclusion on campus. Framingham State is one of 93 honorees to be featured in INSIGHT into Diversity's November issue.

Framingham State has taken several steps recently that match the award's mission.

This year, the school hired Constanza Cabello as its first vice president for diversity, inclusion and community engagement, and appointed Patricia Birch as the director of inclusive initiatives. Last year, President Javier Cevallos signed a pledge among college and business leaders to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The university has professional development opportunities for faculty and staff with those goals.
