Framingham State University President Javier Cevallos is the new chairman of the board of directors of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
Cevallos chaired his first AASCU meeting on Oct. 30. He will be the board's chairman until 2020, when the president of the Arkansas State University system will take over.
Cevallos has been the Framingham State president since 2014, and has worked in higher education since he started working as an assistant Spanish professor at the University of Maine in 1981. He was born in Ecuador and grew up in Puerto Rico.
Cevallos succeeds Dana Hoyt, the president of Sam Houston State University in Texas, as the AASCU chair.
Also serving on the AASCU board is Westfield State University President Ramon Torrecilha.
