Framingham State University will open a new student services center in February to be the campus's first dedicated to those with varying disabilities.

The center is named after Chris Walsh, a late state representative who advocated for students and families in MetroWest. He died in 2018 of cancer after already planning the idea for the center with stakeholders including Sheryl Goldstein, chairwoman of the Framingham Special Education Parent Advisory Council.

The Chris Walsh Center for Educators and Families of MetroWest will offer information for students, families and educators about support available for those with disabilities and other needs. The center's first coordinator will be a Framingham State associate professor of education, James Cressey.

An opening event for the center is planned for Feb. 13.
