Framingham State University named Iris Godes as its new dean of strategic enrollment management, with her starting the role on May 22.
“The opportunity to be able to offer students a more affordable path to higher education is really attractive to me,” Godes said in a Monday FSU press release. “We know that fewer prospective students are accessing higher education. I hope to help promote the value of affordable higher education.”
She replaces Jeremy Spencer in the role. Spencer left the college in September and is vice president of enrollment management at Labouré College of Healthcare in Milton. The role has been filled on an interim basis by Jessica Mireles, president of consulting firm JM Partner Solutions.
Godes is currently serving as the associate vice president of enrollment and dean of admissions at Dean College in Franklin. Previously, she was the assistant vice president of enrollment management at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.
“It’s no secret that Framingham State faces an extremely challenging enrollment environment,” FSU President Nancy Niemi said in the press release. “Iris brings expert knowledge of the Massachusetts higher education landscape, having led enrollment teams at both private and public institutions in the Commonwealth.”
Institutes of higher education across the country have been facing enrollment challenges as the number of graduating high school seniors is dropping, as the population of that generation is smaller. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the problem, as more students rethought the value of a higher education as part of their life and career goals.
Godes is a long-time resident of Framingham and looks forward to serving her community, she said.
“I know Framingham, and I know Framingham schools and the entire MetroWest region,” she says. “I have a lot of connections in the area and look forward to tapping into the larger community to raise awareness of everything FSU has to offer.”
