Framingham State University is launching a fully-online MBA program aimed at working professionals who can't make it to campus.
Courses will begin in the fall and be offered on an accelerated eight-week timeline. The university already had a traditional in-person MBA program that included some online courses, giving students an ability to complete their degree in as few as 16 months.
Steve Moysey, the program director at Framingham State, said the new online program was the latest step in a process the school has taken to make the MBA program more convenient and flexible for students.
The online program will include two concentrations, management and biotechnology operations. Initially, it will be available only for the management concentration, which is meant to prepare mid-level managers and business professionals for leadership and management roles.
The online MBA is initially launching with options to complete the program in two years or four. The two-year option is based on taking two courses during the fall, spring and summer for two years. The four-year option includes one course during the fall, spring and summer for four years.
Framingham State's new offering comes as fewer nationally are choosing to go for an MBA. Applications for MBA programs across the country fell 7 percent between 2017 and 2018, according to the Graduate Management Admissions Council.
