Framingham mobile firm selected for California 911 upgrade

Framingham mobile alert tech company Rave Mobile Safety has joined the California update of the massive North American upgrade of the 911 system, seeking to make it easier to coordinate emergency response.

Rave announced on Monday that Atos Public Safety, LLC, a Texas-based which uses technology to serve first responder communities, is partnering with Rave on the Next Generation 911 (NG911) Alert and Warning System project for the state of California.

The Next Generation 911 will upgrade the emergency response systems throughout the United States and Canada by switching from the analog system which the number was founded on, to making the public safety system compatible with digital communications.

Rave Mobile will serve as the platform for initiating California’s statewide Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) communications while Atos will oversee the actual infrastructure of the Next Generation 911 system.

Rave’s communication platform will allow California’s NG911 system to synchronize phone numbers and geographic mapping information among first responder agencies. This means that emergency managers can access neighboring agencies’ systems for back-up, ensuring seamless communication, and reliability in the most stressful of circumstances, according to the Rave announcement.

Rave’s alerting platform will be available to hundreds of alerting authorities across the state thereby serving over 39 million residents in California.

This agreement marks the ninth statewide deployment of Rave’s communication solutions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“We are proud to partner with ATOS to help protect the most populous state in the nation and address the unique challenge of ensuring all residents are safe and informed, despite being spread across nearly 200,000 square miles with regions being impacted by entirely different events,” said Todd Piett, Rave CEO, in a press release.
