Definitive Healthcare Corp. is promoting one of its existing executives to the CEO role about a year after he joined the company.

Robert Musslewhite, a healthcare commercial intelligence industry veteran and current president of the Framingham-based company, will officially take the reins as CEO on Aug. 1, according to a press release Thursday from Definitive Healthcare.

Musslewhite, who has been involved with Definitive Healthcare since joining the board of directors in June, has been company president since October. In that role, he has been responsible for all commercial aspects of business, including sales, marketing and mergers and acquisitions.

He will replace company founder and board of directors Chairman Jason Krantz as CEO. Krantz will remain on the board and become the company’s executive chairman.

“Robert brings a wealth of healthcare industry expertise and a successful track record of leading software-as-a-service healthcare information companies,” Krantz said. “He is the perfect person to lead Definitive Healthcare through our next period of growth, and I am excited to continue working in partnership with him.”

This will not be Musslewhite’s first time serving as a chief executive. Before joining Definitive Healthcare, he was CEO of OptumInsight, a division of global healthcare company Optum, which uses a software-as-a-service business model to deliver services to increase efficiency in clinical and administrative processes.

He serves on the boards of CoStar Group in Washington, D.C., Ascend Learning in Burlington, and Iodine Software of Texas, the release said.

“I am tremendously excited to take the helm at Definitive Healthcare, and I am passionate about the company’s mission to transform data, analytics, and expertise into healthcare commercial intelligence,” Musslewhite said. “Definitive Healthcare has a great SaaS business model, with incredible customer retention, which just proves the value that the company delivers to its nearly 3,000 customers. I’m a big believer in the company and the culture that Jason and all the employees have built.”
