The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center has approved a $7.7 million grant for the second phase of Framingham's wastewater system expansion for the town's technology park.
The center approved a $5.2 million grant for the project last November. The project is expected to cost about $12.9 million and will allow Framingham to upgrade its wastewater collection system to accommodate the expansion of Genzyme Corp.'s operations in town.
Genzyme is based in Cambridge, but occupies more square footage in Framingham. Its expansion in town is expected to create 300 new jobs in biomanufacturing, as well as about 125 full-time construction jobs.
The wastewater expansion project is expected to create about 40 jobs.
The first phase of the project was completed in September.
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center is a quasi-public agency charged with distributing $1 billion provided by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Act, a 10-year state initiative to create jobs in the life sciences.
