Hordes of the undead have descended upon the ruins of Washington, D.C. It’s either survival or a grisly death at the hands of biting, gnashing zombies.
Luckily, however, the dead only live in this post-apocalyptic world in mobile devices.
Framingham video game company Disruptor Beam on Thursday announced the release of The Walking Dead: March to War, a multi-player game pitting survivors against zombies. It’s based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, which has risen to fame with the help of the TV show by the same name.
Disruptor Beam announced the release of the game on the App Store and Google Play.
“The game plunges players into a life-or-death struggle in the ruins of Washington, D.C., as they work with and against one another in real-time to survive in the The Walking Dead universe,” the company said.
Players navigate an enormous shared map of the nation’s capital with real landmarks like the White House and other notable locations from the Walking Dead universe players will compete to control.
It’s not just zombies that must be defeated, however. Players must form alliances and defend themselves from other survivors in dog-eat-dog, lawless world.
In statements, Disruptor Beam executives praised the quality of the graphics in the game.
“The Walking Dead: March To War is not just great-looking, it truly raises the bar on what's possible with visual storytelling in these types of games,” said founder and CEO Jon Radoff.
Dan Murray, president of Skybound Entertainment, the makers of the Walking Dead comics, said the company delivered an authentic depiction of the Walking Dead universe.
“We’re thrilled that this new game will feel very familiar to fans of The Walking Dead,” he said.
