Framingham-based Perini Management Services has inked a contract worth $35.8 million to construct a new tool and die facility for the U.S. Army in Iowa.
A subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Tutor Perini Corp., Perini Management Services will construct the new 56,000-square-foot facility at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa, according to a company press release issued Thursday.
Work on the project began in November, with an expected completion in June 2027. The facility is designed to meet LEED Silver certification.
Originally known as the Iowa Ordinance Plant, the facility first opened in 1941, producing ammunition used in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, among other conflicts, according to the U.S. Army’s website.
In 2024, Perini Management Services was awarded a contract from the National Park Service, valued at approximately $48.6 million, to stabilize and rehabilitate the Main Prison Building on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay.
The Perini Corp. was founded in 1894 by Bonfiglio Perini, an Italian immigrant who resided in Framingham, according to the Framingham History Center. Perini Corp. merged with Tutor-Saliba Corp. of California in 2008; the parent company’s corporate headquarters was moved to Los Angeles in 2009.
