Framingham firm chosen for $90M Uruguay embassy project

A Framingham construction firm has been chosen for a major security and renovation project at the U.S. Chancery in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Perini Management Services has been awarded the contract, the U.S. Department of State announced Wednesday.

According to the a project description, the project at the four-story compound built on three acres in 1969 should cost between $65 million and $90 million.

Upgrades slated for the embassy include life safety and security upgrades as well as new support facilities, according to the department. The building shell will be upgraded to meet blast requirements and the interior will be reconfigured. 

Other improvements are slated for the interior, including electrical and air conditioning upgrades.

Perini Management Services now boasts another high-profile government project. According to the company’s website, previous contracts have included projects at air force bases and other military and diplomatic compounds — including for some foreign governments — in 70 different countries.
