Four Area Programs Get Life Sciences Training Grants

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center today awarded $3.4 million to 32 educational programs, including four programs in Central Massachusetts, for the purchase of laboratory equipment to train students.

The new equipment and supplies program for skills training and education is a grant program sponsored by the Waltham-based center as part of the state’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education initiative.

This is the first year for the program, which provides grants worth up to $250,000 to technical high schools, community colleges and workforce training programs in the state.

Awardees in Central Massachusetts include:

  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute, partnering with Pall Corp. of Northborough. Grant amount: $250,000
  • Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, partnering with Bristol-Myers Squibb in Devens. Grant amount: $100,000.
  • Worcester Technical High School. Grant amount: $85,829.
  • Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough. Grant amount: $67,116.
