Timothy McGourthy, a former Worcester chief development officer and executive director of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, on Tuesday was named acting president and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, a key agency in the state's biotech sector.
McGourthy will fill in for Travis McCready, who is stepping down after more than four years leading the center, the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration announced Wednesday. McCready is stepping down to join a healthcare startup company, according to the Life Sciences Center.
McGourthy left the research bureau in February 2019 and became deputy secretary in the state's Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development. He had led the research bureau since 2014.
The Worcester native is also a former chief development officer for the City of Worcester and CEO of the Worcester Redevelopment Authority from 2006 to 2014. He's also a former director of policy at the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
McGourthy replaced Carolyn Kirk, who was named executive director of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center will undertake a search process for a permanent president and CEO with help from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.
Undersecretary for Business Growth Mark Fuller, the incoming co-chair of the center's board of directors as Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy’s designee, will lead the search committee that will include additional members of the board to be named later.
