The Worcester Public Library Foundation has received a $400,000 bequest from the Denise E. Nangle Irrevocable Trust, to be earmarked for purchasing technology equipment for programming, and for training and support of circulating electronic resources for the library, the group announced on Wednesday.
Nangle, who died in 2019, was a long-time volunteer through the Friends of the Library, said Christine Weinrobe, past president of the Friends of the WPL board of directors.
“Her appreciation of the importance of public libraries is apparent in this significant gift,” Weinrobe said in a statement. “Her generosity will make a lasting impact on the institution and our community for years to come.”
Nangle will also posthumously receive the 2020 Dr. William F. and Betty O’Neil Service Award in recognition of both the gift and her volunteer service at WPL. At the same time, the Friends of the Worcester Public Library will receive the O’Neil Service Award for its service and dedication to the library.
The award will be announced at the foundation’s annual meeting, which will be held virtually at 6 p.m. Thursday.
