Former UMass doctor resigns medical license

A former UMass Memorial Medical Center emergency department doctor and assistant professor at UMass Medical School resigned his medical license to the Massachusetts Board of Medicine last week.

The board action on Thursday came after Carlos Melero-Montes, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, voluntarily agreed to stop practicing medicine in July.

The board did not disclose what led to this disciplinary action. UMass Memorial Health Care declined to comment on the matter.

Melero-Montes worked in the emergency medicine department at UMass Medical School as an assistant professor, according to his UMass profile. He received his bachelor of science degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pa. and his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
