Mexican restaurant Playa del Carmen will open its doors at the former Rom’s restaurant in Sturbridge this weekend.
New owners Carmen Scaffidi and Jorge Guzman have updated the Route 131 landmark with adobe-style archways and other Mexican design cues. The restaurant is scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Playa del Carmen will serve regional Mexican dishes and feature a strolling mariachi band on Sunday evenings.
Scaffidi and Guzman also own the Playa del Carmen restaurant on Main Street in Holden.
Rom’s was open for more than 50 years and closed in late 2008.
