The Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center in Gardner has named Charles Murphy as its new executive director.
Murphy, a former state representative from Burlington, will now officially lead the veteran services organization he has led on an interim basis since November.
“I’m honored and excited to take on the executive director role full time,” Murphy said in a statement. “Providing support to our military veterans and their families as they develop resilient, self-sufficient lifestyles has never been more important."
The U.S. Marine Corps. veteran previously led the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center in Dorchester. He’s also worked for Steward Health Care in Boston as a senior vice president of strategic initiatives.
Murphy’s time in the State House spanned eight terms and several leadership positions, including chairman of the House Committees on Ways & Means and House majority whip.
MVOC Founder and board Chairwoman Cathy McWilliams said Murphy has already accelerated the organization’s progress, quickly distinguishing himself as an energetic advocate for veterans.
“His entire career has been one of service, and he has brought the same spirit to the MVOC,” McWilliams said.
