Worcester law firm Fletcher Tilton PC has named Michael Sweeney, former head of the Massachusetts State Lottery, as the law firm’s new executive director.
Sweeney, who served as executive director for the lottery for seven years before joining the firm in April, will be responsible for Fletcher Tilton's day-to-day operations across its five locations, according to a press release Monday from the law firm. He takes over from Matthew Cote, the previous executive director at Fletcher Tilton.
The law firm said Sweeney's experience in state government and his proficiency in drawing upon the operational and leadership skills working in state and city government will be an asset to the firm and its clients.
“We are delighted that Michael has chosen to join us,” said Kirk Carter, president of Fletcher Tilton, in the press release. “We were looking for a business leader with a record of success, good instincts, problem-solving skills and most importantly a collaborative nature — and Michael fit that bill perfectly.”
Sweeney, a native of Lawrence, is a graduate of the UMass Amherst and the City University of New York School of Law. He previously served as planning director for the City of Lawrence before joining the lottery.
“After only a few meetings with the team at FT, it became clear to me that this could be my new home,” said Sweeney in the press release. “It was a number of things: the outstanding reputation of the firm; its unique history of adaptability; the introspective nature of its leadership; but most importantly, the culture of the firm, which is grounded in the concept of family and community.”
Fletcher Tilton has more than 130 lawyers and staff in offices in Worcester, Framingham, Boston, Providence, and Cape Cod. The firm specializes in a range of legal services, including wealth preservation, special needs planning, and real estate transactions. The company is based out of its Worcester location.
