Keystone Educational Collaborative, which provides educational services to students with disabilities, has purchased Apple Hill Farm and Country Club in Leominster for a new educational facility.
The transaction closed on Wednesday for $1.95 million, according to Nick Pelletier, team lead of Pelletier Properties | Keller Williams North Central, a Leominster-based realty, who represented the buyer.
Lynn Walsh of Coldwell Banker in Leominster represented the seller in the transaction.
Keystone, which is headquartered in Shirley, will relocate the services it provides at 360 Electric Ave. in Fitchburg, though the nonprofit will retain the Fitchburg property for other services.
Apple Hill Farm is an 18,000-square-foot event venue located at 143 Joslin St. Keystone will approximately double the space by renovating a lower-level storage area, said Pelletier.
“A couple of years ago Keystone decided that it wanted to own property instead of leasing so it could control its own destiny,” Pelletier told WBJ. “[Executive Director] John Demanche is the visionary behind this project.”
The Keystone board approved a $5.4-million loan for the project from Main Street Bank of Marlborough, according to a report by local news source Leominster Champion.
The Despres family, former owners of the facility, decided to move on from the business but will retain a majority of the property surrounding the one-acre parcel, a working farm and residential properties, said Pelletier.
Keystone was founded in 1975 and provides educational and vocational services to students with a range of disabilities, and professional training to educators. It serves communities throughout North Central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
