James Garvey, the former president and CEO of Worcester's Flagship Bank & Trust Co., has landed a job as CEO of Charter Bank in Bellevue, Wash.
He's been COO of the bank since July.
Garvey officially became CEO of Charter Bank Tuesday in anticipation of the retirement of Keith Jackson from that position. Jackson's retirement is planned for 2010. Upon his retirement, Jackson will become the bank's chairman.
Charter Bank is a private bank that primarily serves high-net-worth, privately-owned businesses in the Pacific Northwest.
Garvey, a banking and finance industry veteran, was president and CEO of Flagship for eight years beginning in 1999.
In January 2008, Flagship was bought as part of Bridgeport, Conn.-based Peoples United Bank's acquisition of Chittenden Corp. of Vermont.
Since last January, Flagship has been helmed by Timothy Crimmins, founder of the Bank of Western Massachusetts, which was also part of the People's Chittenden acquisition.
