A former executive of Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. was given permission by a superior court judge to go work for tech giant Hewlett-Packard.
David Donatelli will serve at HP as executive vice president of enterprise servers and networking. He previously worked as the head of EMC's data storage unit until his resignation one month ago.
While the Suffolk County Superior Court judge said Donatelli could work for HP, the judge's order bars Donatelli from working for HP's data storage business for one year.
EMC had sought an injunction in Massachusetts to prevent Donatelli's new appointment based on a non-compete clause he reportedly signed.
According to an earlier press release from EMC, Donatelli joined the company in 1987 and "held important management positions in nearly every area of the company, including sales, marketing, customer service, manufacturing and alliances."
Donatelli holds an undergraduate degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in Chicago.
