Forest Group: Biomass Plants Are Not Green

Contrary to what the Massachusetts Forest Watch says is popular belief, wood-fueled biomass power plants emit more carbon dioxide than coal and natural gas power plants, the organization argues in a new report.

Forest Watch issued a study that argues that biomass power plants produce about 50 percent more carbon dioxide than coal plants and about 150 percent more than natural gas plants.

Biomass power plants use wood chips to produce power.

The Massachusetts state legislature is considering a bill that would limit the carbon dioxide emissions that a power plant can produce in order to receive government subsidies.
