Foreign-Born Entrepreneurs Leaving U.S.

Reverse migration could threaten the country's economic recovery, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Challenger, Gray, a Chicago-based outplacement firm, has said that as many as 200,000 immigrants from India and China are expected to return to their home countries over the next five years. Challenger based its conclusions on the research of Duke University professor Vivek Wadhawa.

Challenger also reported that Wadhwa found that 52 percent of Silicon Valley startups were founded or co-founded by entrepreneurs born outside of the United States.

Challenger said, "Reverse migration could dramatically alter the rate of entrepreneurial activity, which will be essential to job creation and future economic growth."
