Lancaster-based James Monroe Wire & Cable Corporation is a family-owned custom manufacturer of electronic wire and cable for electronics, communications, factory automation, cranes, wind and solar power and military applications, among other things. The family-owned company, founded in 1977 by Martin Fisher, has 96 employees. President David M. Fisher took some time to chat about the company.
How do you recruit new employees, and which positions are you currently recruiting for?
We are not currently looking for any positions, but when we do some comes from word of mouth and the “employee network” as well as using a temp agency to recruit for long term new hires.
What gives you your competitive edge?
We stay ahead of competitors by listening to customer’s needs and not just making products we choose but what the customers demand. We ensure staying in front by also analyzing market needs that are not being met and take advantage of satisfying those shortfalls created by our competitors.
How do you ensure quality?
We follow ISO 9000-2008, which is a very strict quality standard.
Describe your international operations.
We do not operate abroad. We don’t because most of our supply chain is within 4-5 hours from our Lancaster location and we would lose efficiency and control of the process.
What are your long term plans?
The long term plan for the company is to have it remain a privately held family business for the foreseeable future.
