For first time in three months, Worcester County had zero coronavirus deaths Saturday

Worcester County had 88 new coronavirus cases and four fatalities between Friday and Sunday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases in the county bring the total to 12,324, with Friday having the lowest increase since March 23 with four new cases. This drop in cases only lasted one day as Saturday’s numbers increased by 63, and Sunday, 21.

Statewide, confirmed and probable cases increased by 830, adding to the 108,675 total.

Fatalities within Worcester County increased by four over the three days, increasing the total tally to 921 since the pandemic began. Saturday was the first day since April 5 there were no recorded coronavirus deaths in Worcester County. Throughout Massachusetts, there were 84 confirmed coronavirus deaths and 13 probable with 8,060 overall.

DPH reported 23,807 newly administered coronavirus tests between Friday and Sunday. 

As of June 25, the City of Worcester reported 57 new coronavirus cases, adding to the 5,172 overall since the pandemic began. The city’s next coronavirus update will be made on Thursday.

UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester report 43 inpatients and 10 in the intensive care unit on Sunday. 

MetroWest Medical Center in Natick and Framingham reported 24 suspected and confirmed cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported 19. In total the hospitals reported three suspected or confirmed cases on Sunday. Other Central Massachusetts Hospitals such as Heywood Hospital and Health Alliance in Leominster report four suspected and confirmed cases and two in the ICU. 

Nationally, there are more than 2.5 million coronavirus cases and 125,803 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, coronavirus numbers have reached 10.1 million with 501,281 fatalities.
