General contracting firm Fontaine Bros. broke ground on Sept. 8 on a $112-million addition and renovation to David Prouty High School in Spencer.
The Spencer - East Brookfield Regional School District selected the construction company, which has offices in Springfield and Worcester, in January. The project will include an additional 127,000 square feet at the school, including new classrooms, a gym, and administrative spaces, according to Fontaine’s website.
The project was initially approved by voters in October, according to a Telegram & Gazette article. The Spencer Journal first reported on the ground-breaking ceremony.
The project is expected to be complete in time for the 2026-27 academic year.
Fontaine Bros. is based in Springfield and opened its Worcester office in 2017. In January, the company expanded its Worcester offices. It is constructing Worcester’s new Doherty Memorial High School, expected to open in fall 2024.
