After two years of development at Worcester-based incubator Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives, a green chemistry research-and-development startup has graduated to a new headquarters in Marlborough.

Loop CO2, a startup founded in 2022 seeking to use carbon dioxide to produce a number of eco-conscious products, announced the move in a LinkedIn post on Aug. 2. The company’s new address is listed as 260 Cedar Hill St. in Marlborough, a 50,784-square-foot lab building owned by Candee Investments of Lincoln, according to City of Marlborough property records.

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude towards both MBI and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute for accommodating us during our time there,” the post reads, “The well-established lab facilities allowed us to push the boundaries of innovation, while the MBI team ensured that all of our needs were met.”

The company combines carbon dioxide captured from industrial uses with bio-based raw materials to create feedstock pellets, raw materials that can be used to manufacture a number of products. If fully adopted across a number of industries that could use this technology, this manufacturing technique could capture billions of tons of emissions, according to a 2021 article published by Trellis, an eco-business media and event company.

Loop CO2’s line of products includes EcoGlow, an oil used in the beauty and skincare industry, and CO2Bond, an industrial adhesive. The company was awarded $1.6 million in August 2023 through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business Technology Transfer Phase II Program, which helped fund the move, according to a July 26 LinkedIn post from Loop CO2.

MBI estimates it has assisted more than 188 companies, which have created 1,800+ jobs and had more than $1.9 billion in economic impact since 2000, according to the incubator’s website. MBI is the third largest incubator in Central Massachusetts when measured by the number of incubating companies, according to stats provided to the WBJ Research Department, trailing WorcLab in Worcester and ABI-LAB in Natick.
