The Female Leadership Interest Council (FLIC), has offered a $1,000 leadership grant to Girls Inc. of Worcester for the organization's summer programs and is challenging others in the community to do the same.
The Girls Inc. summer programs, which include an inner-city camp and a more rural camp, are in need of $15,000 by June 23.
Girls Inc. has already shortened the number of weeks the camps will operate and has sought donations, grants and scholarships to support the effort. The organization's fundraising efforts have fallen short, however. According to Girls Inc., dozens of families did not apply for financial assistance for their daughters to attend the camps because they knew they could not afford the balance.
Girls Inc. cannot afford to fund camp attendance for those children.
FLIC said it hopes the $1,000 grant will prompt others in the community to make donations to Girls Inc. summer programs.
