Five Central Mass. firms score 100 on LGBTQ index

Grant Welker The Hanover Insurance Group's Worcester campus. The company was one of five other Central Mass. firms to score a 100 on an LGBTQ equality index.

Five Central Mass. companies scored a perfect 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index rating workplaces on LGBTQ tolerance.

Hanover Insurance Group, Boston Scientific, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Staples and TJX were among dozens of other Massachusetts companies taking home perfect marks.

Hanover score 100 for the third consecutive year, while the other four companies all scored a 100 last year as well.

French manufacturer Saint Gobain, with a facility in Worcester, scored a 90 on the index, losing 10 points in the Firm-wide Organizational Competency Programs category.

The index rated more than 945 businesses, evaluating non-discriminatory workplace practices, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits and other factors.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Hanover Insurance Group scored a 90 in the Corporate Equality Index last year. The Worcester company has scored 100 each of the last three years.
