Fitchburg State University has received more than $250,000 from a Maine foundation to support career advising and services, the school said Monday.

The funds will allow Fitchburg State's Career Services and Advising Center to work with faculty over the next three years to develop core career competencies and map them to curricula in 11 academic departments and the general educational curriculum. The grant will also support the creation of an internship and employer relations model.

Funding has come from the Davis Educational Foundation, a charitable foundation supporting undergraduate college programs across New England.

The announcement comes a week after Fitchburg State said it received a $100,000 grant from the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts to benefit engineering technology students through curriculum and laboratory support.
