Fitchburg State University will make $100,000 worth of upgrades to its nursing simulation lab thanks to a grant from the Worcester-based George I. Alden Trust.
Funds from the trust, a philanthropic nonprofit, will support Fitchburg State's purchase of essential technical equipment to help nursing students in learning critical thinking and clinical judgment skills in preparation for healthcare careers.
Fitchburg State, which announced the funding on Wednesday, said the investment will allow students to enhance their critical skills at a time when the coronavirus pandemic makes it more difficult to find clinical placements. The new equipment will include an upgraded audio-visual system and related programming for its life-like simulated patients.
The George I. Alden Trust, which makes higher education among its major beneficiaries, reported making nearly $9 million in contributions in fiscal 2018, the latest year with federal tax data available. Its assets total more than $180 million.
