The Fitchburg Redevelopment Authority replaced 300 light fixtures with LEDs at its business center, Putnam Place in Fitchburg, which along with other changes will save 113,000 kilowatt hours annually.
FRA partnered with Unitil Corp. of Hampton, N.H. for the project, through its vendor, Dallas engineering giant, AECOM, who managed the audit and oversaw the installation of the new equipment, according to a Friday press release.
“This project not only is good for the environment, but makes for a brighter and more comfortable workspace for our tenants,” FRA Executive Director Meagen Donoghue said in the press release.
The project received approximately $52,000 in energy efficiency rebates from Unitil. The reduction in energy usage is equivalent to what 15 homes use on an annual basis, according to Unitil.
Putnam Place is a four-building, 300,000 square-foot office, commercial and manufacturing facility at 166 Boulder Drive in Fitchburg owned by FRA.
Unitil is a public utility holding company, operating in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, serving 107,100 electric customers and 85,600 natural gas customers, according to the company’s website.
