Fitchburg has granted a cable franchise to Verizon, which allows the company to offer its FiOS TV service to businesses and homes in town.
Fitchburg Mayor Lisa Wong authorized the 10-year franchise deal last Thursday, making Fitchburg the 103rd Massachusetts town to do so. The agreement includes provisions for educational and government access channels and service to government buildings.
Signing the Verizon franchise agreement allows Fitchburg residents to choose between cable providers.
Verizon’s FiOS is powered by fiber optic technology.
