Canton Valley, a Fitchburg Housing Authority development, has been given $625,000 in state funds for repairs and efficiency upgrades.
The 48-unit development off Wanoosnoc Road, which was built in 1957, will receive new roofs, siding, doors and upgrades to interior and exterior lighting. Utility costs are expected to be cut by roughly one-fourth, according to the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration, which announced the funding Tuesday.
Canton Valley was one of seven such developments statewide to share a total of $4.4 million in funding from the Massachusetts Comprehensive Sustainability Initiative. Other developments, with a total of 240 units of state-aided public housing, are located in Boston, Brewster, Carver, New Bedford, Stoughton and Taunton.
