Fitchburg furniture store receives $15K NCMDC loan

Lucy’s Furniture and Upholstery of Fitchburg received a $15,000 loan from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. of Fitchburg, to purchase fabric for furniture repair.

The business, which provides furniture repair and upholstery services as well as custom furniture production, was founded in 2004 by Wilson and Patricia Arrua.

“I learned the craft of furniture repair while living in Uruguay from an Italian upholsterer before I immigrated to the United States as a young adult,” said Wilson Arrua in a Tuesday press release.

The NCMDC is the lending arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce in Fitchburg.  As a Small Business Association-certified microlender, the organization can provide loans to small businesses for up to $250,000 for working capital, real estate, equipment, inventory and expansion. It works with banking partners to provide gap financing for the final piece of a project.
