HealthAlliance Hospital in Fitchburg recently celebrated the groundbreaking of an expansion to its cancer center, which is a joint venture with Worcester-based UMass Memorial Health Care.
The $13.5 million expansion of the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center will add cancer treatment equipment and a new pharmacy. All told, the center will expand from 29,000 to 33,000 square feet.
The center currently provides more than 11,500 medical oncology treatments and more than 10,600 radiation therapy treatments a year, according to HealthAlliance, which is a member hospital of the UMass Memorial network.
The hospital is currently fundraising to complete the project, which is expected to be finished by mid-2012.
