In the week ending Sept. 26, 551,000 Americans filed claims for unemployment insurance coverage for the first time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
That’s an increase of 17,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 534,000.The 4-week moving average was 548,000, a decrease of 6,250 from the previous week.
The insured unemployment rate was 4.6 percent for the week ending Sept. 19, unchanged from the prior week’s rate of 4.6 percent.
