An $8,000 grant from the Greater Worcester Community Foundation has been awarded to First Night Worcester.
The foundation's president and CEO, Ann Lisi, said the funds will be used to support core operating staff costs to manage volunteers, broker artists and foster partnerships with schools and other groups for the New Year's Eve arts celebration and other events throughout the year.
"During these difficult economic times, having the support of organizations such as the Greater Worcester Community Foundation enables us to continue to present one of the longest standing, 31-year celebrations in the country," said First Night Worcester Executive Director Howard McGinn.
Since 1998, the foundation has donated more than $170,000 to the organization.
Nonprofit First Night Worcester has been organizing annual events since 1981 and is the second oldest First Night celebration in the country.
