Fierce Competition For Seasonal Retail Jobs

Competition for retail jobs may be fierce as the holiday season approaches, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
Challenger Gray, an international outplacement firm, said hiring is expected to be flat compared to the holiday season a year ago, but millions of people unemployed and many employed people searching for part-time work to supplement their incomes, demand for jobs may be great.
Retailers are expected to be very selective in hiring, forcing job seekers to search far and wide for open positions.
A year ago, retailers took on 384,300 employees between October and December, about half as many as were hired the prior year, Challenger Gray said.
