Peter Orr is the owner of Fort Hill Farms in Thompson, one of six Connecticut farms that make up The Farmer’s Cow consortium. He says grain corn has skyrocketed in price over the past 18 months.
Orr says he and the other milk farmers are at best making the cost of production or slightly under the cost of production.
The state Department of Agriculture says that whole milk rose from $3.92 a gallon in December 2006 to $4.36 in November 2007.
